DF Outstation 12th USASA Field Station Chitose Japan
The 12th USASAFS was located on the Northern Island of Hokkaido Japan South of the capitol city of Sapporro near the small town of Chitose, Japan. There was a Japanese Airbase called Chitose I. We had a field Hospital, Some Airforce personnel, Radio Station (FEN), a PX, a processing company, and some administration offices located at Chitose I.

Our Field Station which included our quarters, mess hall, snack bar, library, theatre, gym, orderly room, and operations building was called Chitose III. This was located a few miles East of Chitose I, adjacent to and on the grounds of a large Japanese Army Base called Chitose II, Our Operations was the Headquarters for ASAPAC North. Our SIT (Special Identification Techniques) was Net control for our DF Net (Northern Pacific HFDF Net). Our outstations in addition to our own were located in the 14th USASAFS in Southern Japan, Kami Seya near Yokohama Japan, Korea (an Island off the coast of Korea), and Shemya one of the small islands of the Aleutian Chain off Alaska. Our OIC was LT. John Packard and our NCOIC was SFC John Fryer. Other people I would like to note was CPL Norm Kitchin who was Fryers Assistant and right arm. My Trick chief was Bob Davenport, and the person who mentored and trained me was SP4 Nick Malsbury. Nick was an incredible guy. Four months later, He along with 3 other DF personnel from the 12th joined Sgt Norm Kitchin, and went to the Naval base at Kami Seya Japan in January of 1960 to open a new DF site.
