The Missile Range DF detachment was located on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. AN/TRD-23 Direction Finders were used by organizations other than ASA. One was in the Bahamas Islands in support of the missile tracking range operated by the US Army and others in support of Cape Canaveral operations. And, from email:
Tom - Photo with the dot is of area near base headquarters to which the following story is related.
Did you know/ever hear of a Joseph McMoneagle? He came right out of school to Eleuthera. He and I became good buddies. But I lost track of him until 1995, when I saw him on TV. He turned out to be a remote viewer (he doesn't like the term "psychic")
He and I had a UFO encounter on Eleuthera - in one image of Eleuthera, I put a red dot - marking where Joe and I were "illuminated" by a UFO early one morning. Joe looked up and got "burnt" on teh side of his face, I was just fascinated by the birhgt white light and how I could see things all lit up. Lasted about 15 - 20 seconds. Light goes off, and the UFO zips over the Atlantic and the horizon in about 2 seconds.
His website is www.mceagle.com There is a picture of him and his wife that I took back in 1997.
Anyhow, it was hard to believe that this guy went on to become a CW2 and take Dickie Maher's place at the 05D shop at the Hall.
